A total of 15 teams with 45 participants from 7 countries completed the second edition of the Pedagogical Design and Sustainable Education Development Bootcamp, accompanied by 15 mentors.
This edition focused on supporting university teams in the design of curriculum for online and blended learning, guiding and supporting selected teams in the design of transformative pedagogies and the implementation of Education for Sustainable Development in their curricula with the support of the CoDesignS ESD toolkit.
The ESD 2023 Learning Design and Internship Camp awards went to Universiti Teknologi MARA – Malaysia (English version), where an 8-week training module on environmental ethics was redesigned, and to the Instituto Politécnico Nacional – Mexico (Spanish version) on the Design of the architectural preliminary project with sustainable criteria, where competencies, skills and abilities for the design of the architectural project are promoted in the students; the analysis of buildings through collaborative work in mixed and individual teams and the recognition of the Sustainable Development Goals with which sustainability criteria are assumed.
The work of mentors Carmen García Luna of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and Victoria Tanit of Anglia Ruskin University was also recognized.

The Bootcamp 2023 was delivered in collaboration with the Association for Learning Design and Education for Sustainable Development (ALDESD), Manchester Metropolitan University, the American University of Sharjah, Glasgow University and the Open University, both in English and Spanish.
Five universities from the United Kingdom (Keele University, Kingston University, University of Derby, University of Manchester, University of Strathclyde), two from Malaysia (Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi MARA), one from the United Arab Emirates (Higher College of Education), three from Ecuador (Universidad Politecnica Estatal del Carchi, Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, Universidad Católica Cuenca), 3 from Ecuador (Universidad Politecnica Estatal del Carchi, Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, Universidad Católica de Cuenca), 2 from Mexico (Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, Instituto Politécnico Nacional), one from Colombia (Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira) and one from Spain (Universidad de Murcia).
The program was based on the three pillars identified in the CoDesignS ESD Toolkit:
-Implement UNESCO’s core competencies for sustainability that are relevant to all SDGs and have been categorized into: Ways of Thinking, Ways of Practicing and Ways of Being.
-Identify specific learning objectives for the SDGs targeting cognitive, socioemotional and cognitive domains to engage students in a transformative educational experience.
-Develop transformative pedagogies and teaching methods delivered online or blended that support participation and collaboration, problem orientation, interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity, and linking formal and informal learning (UNESCO, 2017).
Throughout the program, the teams developed different activities to deepen their understanding of the key concepts of Education for Sustainable Development and how through transformative pedagogies they could implement dynamics aimed at strengthening global citizenship and key concepts of sustainability.
